Location: Founded in 1917, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music is the oldest conservatory on the West Coast of the United States. Located in the heart of the San Francisco's arts nexus, the Conservatory is a diverse and vibrant community of 390 students. Our students receive an intensive, personalized education, studying with some of the world's finest professional musicians. Our small size affords students a wealth of performance opportunities; from ensembles and recitals to more spontaneous collaborations with faculty and peers, both inside and outside the Conservatory's walls. As the oldest, major independent Conservatory of Music on the West Coast of the United States, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music offers a truly unique educational experience. Located since 2006 in a new $80 million facility in one of the world's premier cities, SFCM collegiate program combines a rigorous program of performance and study with an intimate atmosphere where students work closely with faculty and staff.
Housing: The Conservatory is pleased to offer a breadth of housing support services for incoming and continuing students. The AssociateDean for Student Life coordinates housing support services for students, which may include communicating with new students about housing options; connecting current and incoming students looking for roommates and housing; maintaining an on-site and online bulletin board with housing listings, roommate databases, neighborhood information, and interactive postings; and answering general questions and concerns. The Conservatory's central location allows for convenient public transportation access through MUNI or BART. Golden Gate Hall, located only two blocks from the Conservatory, is a student residence facility offering affordable and convenient housing for Conservatory students. This newly renovated dorm offers single and double rooms at special student rates and with flexible leasing terms. Amenities include a fully equipped kitchen, student lounge with a large flat-screen TV, laundry facilities, a fitness center, weekly housekeeping, and 24 hour security.
Student life: A balanced life is an integral component of a Conservatory student's collegiate experience. Programs supporting this experience can include orientation, health & wellness education, career development, housing support services, counseling referrals, International student services and disability support services. The Student Advisory Committee serves as the student voice and works with the Office of Student Life to address student concerns. The Student Advisory Committee and the Office of Student Life also organize school-wide programs to encourage social interaction and community building. Past programs have included SF Giants baseball games, volunteering trips and all-school Halloween and Cinco de Mayo parties. The Conservatory encourages its students to realize their artistic and personal potential through these learning opportunities and community resources. It remains one of the US' most iconic and frequently visited cities. With its famously laidback coastal lifestyle and sunny climate, San Francisco is also among the top-ranked cities in the world for quality of living.
